Town Bunting
It’s good to see that the bunting has gone up throughout the town this weekend in preparation for the forthcoming flower parade. Spalding Chamber has accomplished two things in this regard – firstly ensuring that the Crescent has been included in the scheme for the first time in years, and secondly ensuring the bunting will remain in place until mid-August. This will ensure the town is decorated not just for the parade, but throughout the Jubilee celebrations, Olympic Torch Relay and the Olympics themselves. With these historic events all happening in a short space of time (and hopefully leading to increased visitor numbers), it’s only right that the town should look like an effort has been been made for it to look its best!

Cleanup Spalding Sunday 29th April
Talking of the town looking tidy, please support our “cleanup” day this coming Sunday 29th April. We meet and start at Bookmark in the Crescent with sessions in the morning (10am to 12pm) and afternoon (2pm to 4pm). We’ve run these before very successfully – the difference that can be made in just a couple of hours is amazing, it’s true that many hands make light work! They’ve always been well attended so please help make this one a success so that the town looks clean and tidy for the flower parade the following weekend.

Christmas Lights 2012
We’re also in discussions with SHDC regarding the town’s Christmas lights. Whilst SHDC have said they’ll continue to fund the lights, it’s felt that Chamber should be able to get better value from the budget and bring (much needed) improvements along the way. I’m sure all will agree that the current illuminations are looking a bit tired and also replacement bulbs are hard to get hold of. We’re currently looking at obtaining funding and exploring several options which will hopefully result in an improved display, if not for 2012 then at least for 2013.

Speed Networking May 10th - Free to attend
There’s now time for another reminder of our forthcoming speed-networking event. Due to circumstances beyond our control the event had to be re-scheduled and will now be held on Thursday 10th May at Broad Street Business Centre. A light buffet and refreshments will be served at 5.30pm with the speed networking starting at 6pm. Remember the whole event is absolutely FREE OF CHARGE thanks to our sponsor, PSP IT Design and Development!

The format is simple - one minute to introduce yourself and your business to the person sat opposite, the next minute they do the same for you and then move on to the next person and repeat. Whether you’re a small retailer or a larger employer networking is important. I strongly urge anyone in business to give it a go and look forward to seeing you there!
